Bučimiš – PDF score
Bučimiš (pronounced bu-chi-mish) is a traditional folk dance from the Thrace
region of Bulgaria. The title means ‘hemlock’, a deadly poison, which you may
feel is appropriate when learning it! The first challenge is getting comfortable
with the 1 5/1 6 metre: this is traditionally felt as a combination of ‘Quick’ (♪)
and ‘Slow’ (♪.) beats in the pattern QQQQSQQ.
The improvised solo at figure C is written in the alto part, but feel free to give
it to whoever in your ensemble is most comfortable improvising, and
redistribute the parts accordingly. The optional solo descant at figure I is
intended for groups of 8 or more singers.
This is is a difficult arrangement not for the faint of heart.
